Ryan DeFranco, a former New Mexico resident, joined Athlete Training and Health January 2018. He assists with the oversight for both our student athletes and our forever athletes. His primary responsibilities are coaching and turf programming. In addition to his coaching role, Ryan assists with performance data collection and implementation of our ATH athletes.
Most recently, Ryan served as a Performance Scientist and Specialist for the Oklahoma City Thunders semi-professional team the OKC Blue. During his time with the OKC Blue, he monitored player’s fitness and intensity levels through the use of Catapult (a player tracking system). In addition to monitoring the athletes, he assisted the strength and conditioning coach with the daily operation of training. Before his arrival in Oklahoma, he worked at Sun Country Physical Therapy as a physical therapy technician where he assisted rehab patients with their prescribed exercises. From 2016 to 2017, Ryan worked with FC Dallas as a Sport Scientist and Data Analyst. While at FC Dallas, he developed a Major League Soccer draft booklet and provided injury reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and Director Sport Science.In addition to Ryan’s professional sport experience, he coached at Michael Johnson Performance Center where his main responsibility was to coach their youth and collegiate athletes. Ryan completed his Bachelor degree in Kinesiology at New Mexico State University. Shortly after, he went on to earn his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Texas Tech University. During his time at Texas Tech, Ryan co-authored two published exercise science articles. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Ryan is very passionate about his family and friends, soccer, fishing, outdoor activities, and Microsoft Excel.
